Montana Digital Academy
Montana Digital Academy (MTDA) is specifically designed to provide unique educational opportunities to Montana students and schools. MTDA offers courses in three different formats, aimed at providing services that meet students needs, no matter their location. MTDA’s core programs are taught exclusively by Montana teachers, employed by their local districts, and trained in advanced online instructional techniques by MTDA. For students looking for a new challenge, MTDA offers Advanced Placement™, dual credit, and unique elective courses that expose students to subjects that may not be available in their local schools. Students can access coursework whenever and wherever they want.
Projects and highlights:
- MTDA’s primary instructional delivery model is comprised of three different formats, including original credit, FlexCAP (Flexible Credit Alternative Program), and IPCs (Individlized Pathway Courses). Each format is designed around meeting students where they need assistance. MTDA teachers are employed through Montana public schools throughout the state and provide online instruction to students. MTDA provides compensation for the teachers to the teachers through their district and the Academy reimburses the associated employment costs and processing to the district.
- MTDA offers courses via OpenLMS, the Moodle™ -based learning platform from LTG. The MTDA team has developed several course formats and lesson designs that leverage the advanced toolsets of Moodle and OpenLMS to create student-responsive learning environments.
- MTDA offers EdReady Montana, an online college and career readiness program that assesses student skills in mathematics and English/language arts and provides personalized intervention assistance to students. EdReady is used by students of all ages across the state of Montana who want to brush up on their general math or English skills, become better prepared for college, or practice math skills needed for their desired career path. EdReady is provided by MTDA to all Montana students through a gift from the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation.
- The 2023 Montana Legislature expanded MTDA to include a “clearinghouse,” an interface for students and schools to access additional digital learning resources to further their education to meet their goals, including industry certification preparation, blended learning platforms, expanded course access.
