Founded in 1998, Michigan Virtual™ is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is leading and collaborating to build learning environments for tomorrow. Driven by student success, they have a strong record of supporting Michigan education that spans more than two decades.
Michigan Virtual’s Student Learning Services offerings boast a student pass rate more than 20 percentage points higher than Michigan’s statewide average for virtual learning, and their student catalog includes more than 250 high-quality online courses for middle and high school students, including:
- Core subject areas
- Career-oriented electives
- World languages
- Credit recovery and alternative learning courses
- Advanced Placement courses
In addition to student courses, Michigan Virtual offers a wide variety of Professional Learning Services options for educators. They partner with many of Michigan’s leading educational organizations to create professional development courses that address the most pressing issues facing educators today, with topics including:
- Social emotional learning
- Anti-racist and trauma-informed instruction
- Supporting students with disabilities
- Literacy essentials
- Online and blended teaching

The research arm of their organization — Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute (MVLRI) — conducts original research, tests innovations in learning, and promotes effective instructional practices. This team is constantly gauging educator needs and prototyping new programs to address pervasive challenges facing Michigan’s K-12 community.
